When you are purchasing residential real estate in Los Angeles, the public school assigned with the property can be an important part of the decision making process.  If you have children and would rather send your kids to public school instead of paying for private school, you as a parent and homebuyer would want to know answers to some important questions.

First you would like to know what school is assigned to your potential new home.  You would also like to know the ranking of school.  Finally you would want to know whether the school has room to enroll your child or children.

Fortunately there are ways to get the answers to these questions without spending too much time.  In order to see what school the home you are looking at is assigned to, there are two websites that provide this information.  These websites also show the school ranking.  The two websites are the following:

Website 1: http://www.greatschools.org/

Website 2: http://rsi.lausd.net/ResidentSchoolIdentifier/

All you have to do is type in the address and click search and the website will give you the school information for Elementary, Middle, and High School that is assigned to that address.  For greatschools.org make sure to select California as the state on the top left.

Finally there is a very important part that you need to know about schools that are assigned to your home.  Just because your home is assigned to a school does not guarantee your child will go to that school.  If for example the school is full and is not accepting anymore kids, your child will be reassigned to another school.  The way to find out whether the school has room for your child is to contact the school administration directly and ask.
